Professionally Generated Content: content available and distributed on a platform (often social media) that has been created by the entitled owner of the content (audio, video or else).
User Generated Content: content available and distributed on a platform (often a social media) that has been created by a user and that uses content from an entitled third-party.
Specifically, on TikTok:
- An artist uploads its own music on TikTok and creates a video with it: PGC.
- A user uses the music that has been uploaded by the artist: PGC.
- A user uploads the music from an artist and uses it to create a video with it: UGC.
Do I analyze UGC or PGC in the TikTok Analytics page?
In TikTok, you will find a mixture of both UGC & PGC. It means that the views and the creations displayed in the platform are related to UGC & PGC.
I don't see the same number of video creations between Backstage and the TikTok app. How can you explain this gap ?
The number that you see on the TikTok app (or website) is the number of videos that are currently live and public on the platform. This number does not include private or deleted videos.
However, the number you see in Backstage is the sum of the number of videos created each day. It can include private videos and videos that have since been deleted.
